The Financial District

Saadi Halil, acrylic on canvas 2015

As you look around, you will see that San Francisco has many different faces, landscapes and cultural identities. While the city is known for its prominent role in counter culture identity, Victorian architecture, steep hills and beautiful integration with the surrounding nature; it also has a formal, high-rise landscape in the Financial District.

The Financial District, or "FIDI" sits at the northeastern tip of the city by its main port and is home to many headquarters for banks, multinational organizations and Fortune 500 companies. Before the construction of the Salesforce tower, the triangular Transamerica building towered over many of the high-rises and served as an iconic landmark for the San Francisco skyline. The painting shows the view of FIDI and The Embarcadero as seen when entering the city from The East Bay (Oakland/Berkeley area) over The Bay Bridge.
